The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was proposed in the Rajya Sabha on January 9, 2019 by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 specifies the tribal communities which are supposed to be Scheduled Tribes. The Bill amends Part II of the Order which specifies the Scheduled Tribes in Assam. The Bill inserts 41 entries for granting Scheduled Tribe status to these communities. These include:
- Matak,
- Kock Rajbongshi,
- Tai Ahom,
- Bhil, and
- Bhumij.
